Are You Ready for Lent?
Here are some fasting and abstinence guidelines during the Lenten Season:
Catholics of age 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent.
In addition, on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics from age 18 to 59 fast and limit themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day.
Those outside the Age Limits and/or those whose state in life (pregnant women, laborers, those who are ill…) may be excused from the requirements of fasting and abstinence but are encouraged to perform some other form of penance or act of charity.
The Lenten Season is a season of conversion filled with fasting, prayer, and penance. We are ultimately open to this conversion through the sacrament of Reconciliation. We go to God, asking for forgiveness of our sins to be cleansed and renewed.
‘Yet even now,’ says the LORD, ‘return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.’ Return to the LORD, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and repents of evil
Confession is available Spy Wednesday (March 27, 2024) from 5-8PM and Good Friday during the Tre Ore Service (March 29, 2024) from Noon-3PM in addition to the regular Confession schedule. Pamphlets with the examination of conscience are available in the Welcome Center located in the vestibule of the church or in the Parish Office.
