Carrying heavy things together.
This a picture from about a month after my dad had a stroke and spent 10 days in ICU. Trying to help him get healthy meant working out together.
On Wednesday morning the Parish Staff will be meeting to discuss the things that we need to be doing as a parish to:
- Care for the vulnerable, isolated, and elderly and make sure people aren’t slipping through the cracks
- Make sure that people have the things they need for body and soul
- Find ways for our parishioners to do the spiritual and corporal works of mercy with prudence
Obviously this will involve things like putting together teams to make phone calls and check in with folks, offering chore services (like shopping, or mowing the lawn) or just a friendly voice and a listening ear.
Right now, the need might not be too great, but as time goes on and the situation develops, it may become critical that we have a network in place already – might as well be prepared.
What I need from you
- Can you think of any needs that may be coming up?
- Can you think of any things that the parish should be offering?
- What could you do to help? (Drive, shop, maintenance, phone calls?)

We will be meeting on Wednesday to brainstorm and start formulating some initial plans. I would like to be sure that we contact at least all of our parishioners over 65 by this weekend so that they know how to watch the Mass online and have a way to do that.
