Say hello to our new Youth Missionaries for the 2019-20 year! The Parish Missionary Intern program started in 2013 with the idea of approaching leadership of youth faith formation programs as a collaboration between parish volunteers and a missionary intern who would facilitate the coordination of all aspects of the respective faith formation program. Our missionaries are young adults who love Jesus, His Church, and desire to share the Gospel with others, particularly ministering to youth and young adults. Learn about Ronan, Bethany, and Alexandra and make sure to say hello when you see them!
My name is Ronan Ostendorf and I’m very excited to be directing Sparks this year. I hail from the Carolinas. Washington is a lot like home but with more Subarus and a lot less sweet tea (bless ya’lls hearts). I have four siblings and six nieces/nephews. I was homeschooled most of my life, and I’ve a few semesters of college under my belt. Theological and philosophical debates are my favorite thing, next to any activity that has the potential to launch you into the air (Skiing, watersports, driving with Grandma). Again, very excited to serve here. Looking forward to speaking with you!
Hello Star of the Sea family! I am overwhelmed with joy to be here! What a gift it has been to have received nothing short of cheerful welcome and generous hospitality. My name is Bethany Szamocki, I am 22 and come from good ol’ Illinois the land of corn, cows, and all things Abraham Lincoln. Right after high school I served with NET Ministries from 2016-2018, but this past year I was living in Maryland and working as a nanny for my little god nephew, Javier Antonio. I am the second oldest of seven kids. My parents have been married 23 years. I was homeschooled K-8th grade and after a move of states, I took on the public school for 9th-12th. Let me tell ya, my favorite things to do are spend time with people and LAUGH. I have a great joy for the Lord and have a desire to radiate that to everyone I encounter. Shaboom! My goal this year is to form this parish into missionary disciples. I want to bring Fr. Lappe’s, sending forth message “go forth and proclaim the gospel, the mass is ended” to life. This will be accomplished primarily through the programs and incredible core teams. Speaking of! I will oversee Confirmation and Roots (young adult program) this year. The Lord has and will continue to bless this year. I have great confidence in my mission at hand. Let any of us missionaries know if you are interested in joining a core team or want to know more about us, we would love to come over for dinner sometime and get to know you! Thank you for giving me an opportunity to share my faith! Be reassured of my constant prayers for the community here at Star.
Hi my name is Alexandra Shipley. I’m 19 years old. I was born and raised two hours north from here on a little island called Camano. Being from the PNW I have a deep love and appreciation for the outdoors. however, last year I left the Beauty of Washington behind and move to Minnesota, there joined a radical mission called NET ministries and through this experience with that I realized I had a passion for youth ministry. I was given the honor of being in charge of the Ignite high school group. This year, Ignite will be using a new program called YDisciple. YDisciple takes a new look at the traditional youth group night it is designed more engaging more educational than any other program out there. I’d like to invite every highschooler in this Parish to come to Ignite. Maybe you’ve tried it before or you’ve never gone, I highly encourage to give it a try. The new time of ignite will be from 12:30 to 2:00 pm every Sunday, we will be in center rooms 3, 4, & 5. I can’t express how grateful I am to be able to serve this Parish this year, know that you were in my prayers.
