This mission of Mary’s Place, Bremerton has been to feed the mind, body, and soul of those in need, and we have provided without question a hearty meal and fellowship to anyone who comes to our door every Monday, holidays included. Over the years hundreds of volunteers have served thousands of meals, and for the past few years our Parish Nurse has provided monthly health assistance as well. How do we do it? With the time, talent, and treasure of our parish family.
In February of 2020, the Corona virus closed our doors, but not our mission. Since then, a dedicated team of our volunteers has provided a weekly meal to the Salvation Army for distribution at their facility (take-out), and we have even been able to send weekly meals to the Kitsap Rescue Mission and Benedict House homeless men’s shelter. For the past year our parish has also provided monetary support to the Salvation Army to help defray the additional burden they accepted during the pandemic.
We now believe that Mary’s Place can resume in-person dining in Camerman Hall on Mondays starting June 14. In order to accomplish this goal, we need several things to happen:
First, we need a cadre of dedicated volunteers willing to sacrifice just a few hours a month to serve in the many roles involved.
Contact Michelle at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to help. And please – don’t let a lack of cooking, serving, dishwashing, or cleaning up experience stop you from being a part of this worthwhile experience. There’s a job for everyone, and training will be provided.
Second, we will need continued financial support.
Donations to Mary’s Place can be made online, by placing a check in the regular collection with Mary’s Place noted in the memo line, or by placing cash in the collection in an envelope marked for Mary’s Place.
Third and perhaps most important, we need prayer warriors.
Mary’s loving and protective mantle has guided us in the past, and we must once again enlist her intersession with her Son to make this a success. This can only happen by listening to the voice of our Blessed Mother and answering her gentle call to service.
