SUMMARY:Advent Mission
DESCRIPTION:Divine Mercy in the Gospels\nDecember 9-12\, 2024With Fr. Ben Cameron\, C.P.M.\n  \nM I S S I O N   T A L K  |  7:00-8:00PM in the Church \nC O N F E S S I O N  |  After Morning Mass and before & after Mission Talk  \nM A S S  SCHEDULE:  \n\nDecember 9 (Immaculate Conception\, Holy Day) – 9AM\, Noon\, 7PM;  \nDecember 10 & 11 – 7:30AM;\nDecember 12 (Our Lady of Guadalupe) – 7:30AM\, 7PM\n\n  \n \n Livestream of the Talks Here\n \n \n \n \n \n				  \n\nAbout Fr. Ben Cameron\, C.P.M. \nFr. Ben Cameron was born in Kokomo\, Indiana\, and grew up as a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in that city.  During his junior high and high school years\, he attended a small Christian school that was operated by a local Baptist church.  It was in that non-Catholic environment\, where his faith was often challenged\, that he began to study the Catholic Faith.  Fr. Ben is a 1991 graduate of Christendom College\, a small Catholic liberal arts college in Front Royal\, Virginia\, where he became involved in the Legion of Mary\, which awakened his desire to share his Catholic Faith with others.  Upon receiving his degree in Political Science and History\, Fr. Ben planned a career in the political arena\, but soon found that God had other plans.  He joined the Fathers of Mercy in 1992\, studied theology at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell\, Connecticut\, and was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on May 31\, 1997.  Fr. Ben has served as Vocation Director\, Treasurer\, Mission Director and Assistant General of the Fathers of Mercy during his priesthood.  He has served as a full-time parish mission preacher and retreat master (2000-2018)\, and as pastor of St. Helen’s Parish\, Glasgow\, Kentucky\, and its mission church\, Our Lady of the Caves in Horse Cave\, Kentucky (2018-2022).  He is once again serving as a full-time parish mission preacher and retreat master. \n  \n The Congregation of the Fathers of Mercy was founded in 1808\, originally under the title of the “Missionaries of France.”  The community was founded for the purpose of re-evangelizing the French people after the Catholic Faith had been subjected to years of attacks and persecution during the French Revolution.  It is now an exclusively American community.  The Generalate of the community is located a few miles outside of Bowling Green\, Kentucky.  The primary apostolate of the Fathers of Mercy is to conduct parish missions and retreats\, which are now given throughout the United States\, Canada and Australia. \n  \n During the mission\, Fr. Ben will encourage and challenge the parish community to make a stronger\, deeper personal commitment to Jesus Christ and His Church.  His topic that he will speak on during this mission is the Infinite Mercy of God\, and how we can live the Divine Mercy devotion more deeply through understanding its roots in the Gospels. \n

SUMMARY:Simbang Gabi
DESCRIPTION:Mass is at 6:00 PM followed by a reception in Camerman Hall. All are welcome!\n\n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Commissioning Mass at St. James Cathedral\nSaturday\, December  14\, 2024 @ 11AM\nJoin Catholics across the archdiocese for the Archdiocese of Seattle’s 27th Simbang Gabi Commissioning Mass to be presided by Archbishop Paul Etienne.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What is Simbang Gabi?\n\nSimbáng Gabi (Filipino for “Night Mass”) is a devotional Novena of Masses in anticipation of Christmas and to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Traditionally the masses are held daily from December 16–24\, and occur at different times\, even as early as 4:00am! It is a time of great celebration; singing of native carols\, adorning your homes with colorful lanterns/decorations\, and feasting.   \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The original Simbang Gabi was called the “Misa de Aurea” (Golden Mass) or the “Angel’s Mass.” In 1587\, Fray Diego Soria\, prior of the San Augustin Convent\, petitioned the Pope for permission to hold Christmastide Masses outdoors because the church could not accommodate the multitude that attended the services. The request was granted through a rescript and in the 17th Century\, the Misa de Aguinaldo or the Misa de Gallo\, or Simbang Gabi became a Filipino spiritual tradition. Vatican II encouraged the church in the Philippines to continue the tradition and uphold its significant role in the life of the people. \nFilipino Americans brought Simbang Gabi to the United States and found it to be an effective way to stay connected to their faith. It expresses who they are as a Filipino people\, and enables them to share their God-given gifts with the wider Church in the United States. Simbang Gabi draws on the leadership of the Filipino Catholics in the parishes to carry out these special gatherings and to share their religious tradition and culture with the whole parish family. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THE PAROL\n \nA Parol is a star-shaped lantern displayed in homes in the Philippines\, meant to serve as a guiding light and sign for Mary and Joseph and more importantly\, Jesus\, to come into the home\, as the family is ready for them. It is also used as a part of the processional entrance for Mass to remind us that Jesusis the Light of the World bringing life and light to all who accept Him. \nThe presence of the star reminds us of God’s presence among us and that Jesus is Emmanuel!
