Celebrating Simbang Gabi

WHAT IS SIMBANG GABI?

Simbáng Gabi (Filipino for “Night Mass”) is a devotional Novena of Masses in anticipation of Christmas and to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Traditionally the masses are held daily from December 16–24, and occur at different times, even as early as 4:00am! It is a time of great celebration; singing of native carols, adorning your homes with colorful lanterns/decorations, and feasting.

All Are Welcome to Take Part in the Celebration!

THE PAROL

A Parol is a star-shaped lantern displayed in homes in the Philippines, meant to serve as a guiding light and sign for Mary and Joseph and more importantly, Jesus, to come into the home, as the family is ready for them.

The presence of the star reminds us of God’s presence among us and that Jesus is Emmanuel!
