JustFaith Program This Fall
Saturday, 07 August 2010 17:28

What is my responsibility toward the poor? How do I become someone who really cares for and acts on behalf of the poor and the vulnerable? This fall, JustFaith is being offered for the second  time in our parish. The program is designed to empower and transform participants so that they can become voices for the voiceless and agents of God’s good news to the poor.

JustFaith offers an opportunity for parishioners to experience a spiritual journey into compassion and exploration of Catholic social teachings in a deliberate and engaging way. JustFaith asks for a considerable commitment. The process involves thirty weekly sessions, retreats and immersion experiences.  JustFaith participants meet in weekly small group sessions that are led by peer facilitators. Overall, this adult formation process uses the best of adult education practices including books, videos, guest speakers, discussion, prayer, opening and closing retreats, immersion experiences and community building. Participants are expected to do one to two hours of reading each week. Participants have the privilege of being nurtured by a small faith community as they journey through this program. Former participants have said it is the best and most meaningful formation experience they have had, and they eagerly looked forward to each weekly meeting. The program will run from September through June.

What did I get from JustFaith and Why should you consider this Journey ?

By Dennis Frey, Star of the Sea Parishioner and JustFaith Graduate

As a recent retiree, I joined the Just Faith group to explore church oriented service opportunities especially in the local area. The immersion experiences were designed to do exactly that and do a great job. In addition the importance of participation in the justice side of issues was consistently pointed out. I am involved in some of the service activities and have begun to work on aspects of the justice side as a new area for me. Just Faith has been a very successful resource for me.

Volunteers Needed

Seeking 3 INDIVIDUALS or COUPLES TO SERVE AS peer FACILITATORS for the JustFaith Ministry sessions to be held September through June. You are invited to accompany your brothers and sisters in Christ on this unique pilgrimage and spiritual journey called Just Faith. Both you and the participants in your JustFaith group will learn and grow in friendship with each other and in your love for the poor and vulnerable of the world. You will be guided and assisted in every aspect of the program by JustFaith Ministries staff, co-facilitators from prior sessions and JustFaith Graduates from Our Lady Star of the Sea. If you are really interested in the Gospel call to social ministry and justice, have the ability to listen (not just hear), conduct discussions, create space and respect for each persons individual journey then we would like you to give prayerful consideration to filling this role. If interested please call Meg Collier in the parish office (360) 479-3777 or contact Linda Bosford at lbosford@hotmail.com
