Liturgical Ministries

Every parish needs help in creating beautiful and meaningful liturgy. If you have a talent or time, we hope you will volunteer.

Altar Servers

Servers assist the priest by taking responsibility for many of the details in the preparation of the altar and vessels for Mass, other special celebrations during the liturgical year, funerals and weddings.  Those boys who have completed 3rd grade should apply to become altar servers. Parents need to contact the Parish Office.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMs) are trusted with the important duty of assisting in the distribution of the Eucharist to the assembly who gather for worship at Mass.  EMs also bring Holy Communion to our many homebound parishioners.  Candidates must be baptized, confirmed and practicing Catholics in this parish, at least sixteen years of age (21 if visiting homebound) and in good standing with the Church. Training is provided. If you have an interest in this ministry, please contact the parish office.

Sacristans

The sacristans at Our Lady Star of the Sea, under the general direction of Deacon Bill Hamlin, undertake the care of the sacristry, laying out the liturgical vestments, and assisting with anything else needed for the celebration of Mass, Benediction, and other liturgical events, such as chalices, ciboria, cruets, oils, procession candles, incense, altar linens, and altar server garments, ensuring that everything necessary is available and in proper order.

Anyone interested in participating in this ministry must be an active member of the parish and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Contact Deacon Bill Hamlin in the Parish Office: 479-3777.

Parish Choirs

Musicians play an essential role in our liturgical celebrations. All of the choirs welcome new members. We have five distinct choirs in the parish. The 5:15 PM Vigil Mass has the men's SCHOLA singing Gregorian Chants, traditional and contemporary music. At the Sunday morning Masses, the Star Lights Girl’s Choir sings at the 8:15 AM Mass, and the 11:00 AM Choir sings traditional music. Our 5:15 PM Sunday Mass Choir sings mainly contemporary music.  Also, there is now a choir for the Traditional Latin Mass, celebrated every 1st Saturday and 3rd Tuesday of the month, which sings traditional Latin hymns.
