Throughout the Summer, Father Lappe will be taking a deep look at methods of prayer during the Wednesday Night Talks. This will be an excellent opportunity to better understand prayer and discernment, and to explore the methods of meditation and contemplation, as taught by St. Ignatius. Father Lappe will go over tools offered by St. Ignatius which help us to pray, and discuss how to overcome obstacles in prayer such as distractions and dryness, and much more. June 2This week we will be discussing Desire in Prayer and how to recognize and pray with the desires that God has placed in our hearts. We will also have an introduction to ARRR (Acknowledge, Relate, Receive, Respond) prayer which gives us a way to relate everything in life to God.

We will continue this week with the discussion of ARRR (Acknowledge, Relate, Receive, Respond). The key point is that we are called to receive God by opening our hearts to him and relating everything within our hearts to his great love for us.

Many people have heard of Lectio Divina, we will be discussing this week how to use this method of praying with the Scriptures. Lectio Divina offers us a way of praying with the Scriptures that creates a place for God to speak to us and to be present to us.

This week we will discuss St. Ignatius method of meditation and contemplation as offered in the Spiritual Exercises. We will use some of the examples of meditation and contemplation from the different exercises to help us pray with the Scriptures.

July 7St. Ignatius offers some other tools to help us pray, such as when to pray, what to pray with, how to begin and end our prayer, how to keep track of our prayer life and other additional directions for praying.

This week will be a discussion common questions and difficulties in prayer such as distractions, dryness, boredom etc.
July 21
This week we will begin our discussion of the rules for the discernment of Spirits from St. Ignatius. We will do Rules One and Two from the first set of rules.
