As part of the 2009 magazine sale, Our Lady Star of the Sea School participated in The Chicken Project through an organization called World Concern. Thanks to student magazine sales and a choice to have fewer prizes, Our Lady Star of the Sea School provided funds for at least 220 chickens for Africa, which provide a hungry family with nutritious food and a sustainable income as extra eggs are sold at market. The prior year, the school sent chickens to Haiti.
