Since I am a teacher I know how important it is to have kids exposed to wholesome family friendly entertainment. Every week I will recommend a book for kids, a book for adults, a movie, and music album that promotes wholesome family values.
Second Edition: April 23, 2010
Movie
Heidi (with Shirley Temple)
I love this movie. I remember watching it when I was a little girl. There are great religious themes throughout the movie. I showed it to my class a few years ago, and they loved it.
Book
For Kids
Saints of Note: The Comic Collection, by Diana R. Jenkins
This is a comic book about different lives of the saints. It is really well done.
For Adults
Signs of Life by Scott Hahn
"Lifelong Catholics realize that it usually takes a convert to help us appreciate and better understand the customs and practices we too often take for granted. Scott Hahn does just that in this immensely reable yet substantive loving look at Catholic prayer, devotions, and beliefs." — Most Reverend Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York
Music Album
Empty and Beautiful by Matt Maher
Matt Maher was born in Canada, but blossmed as a Catholic artist and songwriter in Arizona. This 2008 major-label debut album reached number two on the gospel charts. Includes: As It Is in Heaven * Empty and Beautiful * For Your Glory * Great Things * I Rejoice * Lay It Down * Leave a Light On * Look like a Fool * Maranatha (Come Again) * Shine like the Son * Unwavering * Your Grace Is Enough.
